The Barton Perreira Cecil comes in two sizes, a 47 and a 50. In photos they look almost the same. On a face, three millimeters per lens is easy to see, so it’s worth a couple of minutes on sizing before you order.
Same frame, two widths
Both sizes are handmade in Japan from Zyl acetate. Both have a 21 mm bridge and 148 mm temples, the same squared shape with a slightly heavier brow, and Barton Perreira’s small metal plaques on the front corners. Each comes with a case and a cleaning cloth.
The difference is the lens width. The 47 has 47 mm lenses and the 50 has 50 mm lenses, which makes the 50 about 6 mm wider across the front. The Cecil 47 is $490 and the Cecil 50 is $530.

Check the numbers on your own glasses
If you like the way your current pair fits, its measurements are the best guide you have. Look inside one of the arms. There’s usually a row of three numbers, something like 50-21-145: lens width, then bridge, then arm length.
- If the first number is 48 or lower, start with the Cecil 47.
- If it’s 49 or higher, start with the 50.
- If the middle number is 18 or lower, the Cecil’s 21 mm bridge may sit a little lower on your nose than you’re used to. That one is worth checking in person.
Something else to weigh up: with a strong nearsighted prescription, a smaller lens usually means thinner edges. If you’re right between sizes and your lenses tend to be thick, that’s a point in favor of the 47.

Optical or sun
The Cecil on our site is the optical version, made to take your prescription lenses. Barton Perreira makes it as a sunglass too, so ask if that’s the one you’re after.
Trying them on
At the time of writing the Havana is here in both sizes, so you can put on the 47 and the 50 one after the other. That settles it faster than any measurement. Every frame on our website is in the shop at 105 S Lemon Ave in downtown Sarasota, and if your prescription is due you can book an eye exam with us as well.
